Paint Protection Film (PPF) Cost: 2026 Prices for Florida Drivers
GetAutoDetailing earns money from detailers who buy paid plans. Paid listings are labeled as such. How we list and rank: About.
Last updated: October 23, 2026. These are advertised prices from detailers’ own sites and from published guides, not invoices. The Florida sample for PPF is small, so use the ranges as a sanity check.

Source: prices published on detailers’ own websites, read in September 2026. The coverage rows and the first “all packages” row are national figures, each from a small number of detailers; we have no Florida breakdown by coverage. The Florida row rests on a small sample too (a few dozen detailers), so treat it as directional.
Price guides published by detailing shops in 2026 give a wider spread: roughly $600 to $1,500 for a partial front, $1,500 to $3,500 for a full front, and $5,000 to $8,000 or more for a full car, with premium vehicles at the top. Prices that sit well below these ranges should prompt questions about film brand, coverage and warranty.
What drives the price
Coverage. “PPF” can mean three very different jobs. A partial front covers the highest-impact edges. A full front adds the whole hood, fenders, bumper and mirrors. A full body wraps the exterior. Ask for the panels in writing.
Vehicle size and shape. SUVs and trucks use more film, and curved bumpers and complex panels take longer. National advertised medians run from about $2,000 for sedans to about $2,500 for SUVs and crossovers, from small samples.
Film quality. Film lines differ in finish, self-healing and warranty term. XPEL’s warranty page lists 10 years from installation on its ULTIMATE PLUS and STEALTH films, and 3M publishes its own warranty for its Pro Series film. Terms differ by product line and region, so ask for the written warranty for the exact film on your car. A warranty covers film defects such as yellowing, cracking, blistering and delaminating. It does not mean the film lasts that long in every condition.
Installer skill and edges. Whether the shop wraps edges, how it handles seams and whether it pre-cuts or cuts on the car all affect the result and the price. Ask for photos of recent work on the same model.
Paint prep. Film locks in the paint beneath it. If the paint has swirls or damage, the shop may recommend correction first. See paint correction costs.
Add-ons. Some shops pair PPF with a ceramic coating on top. Ask what the coating adds for the extra cost. Compare ceramic coating prices before you bundle.
What PPF does and does not do
PPF is a clear urethane-based film that sits on the paint. Jalopnik points to it as the answer when you want protection from scratches and rock chips, which ceramic coating does not provide. XPEL says its film defends against rock chips and repairs minor scratches and swirl marks when you lightly apply heat. Deeper scratches that go through the film may not heal and can require repair or replacement.
It has limits. XPEL’s warranty excludes damage from outside forces, including the physical impact of rocks and road debris, as well as flood, hail, collision, improper wash techniques and automatic car washes. PPF protects the paint under it from impact; the film itself can still be damaged.
Florida factors for PPF
- Lovebugs and bugs. UF/IFAS advises removing lovebug remains within about 24 hours, and says waxed paint is easier to clean. The front end (bumper, hood edge, mirrors) takes the hits, which is why a full-front package is the most common choice.
- Sun and UV. The EPA’s UV Index guide (EPA, 2004) lists Miami at 10-11 (very high to extreme) in summer. You still need to wash the film, and XPEL’s warranty excludes damage from improper washing and automatic car washes.
- Highway miles. Gravel and road debris can cause chips anywhere. The more highway driving you do, the more a full front may make sense.
- Salt and coastal driving. Wash the film regularly. Salt film sits on the surface the same way it does on paint.
- Hurricane season. PPF does not protect against flood, hail or flying debris, and XPEL’s warranty excludes them. Photograph your car’s condition before storm season for insurance purposes.
- Heat and humidity. Ask where and in what conditions the film will be installed, and how long the car should stay dry afterward.
- Snowbird season. Ask about lead times in winter and confirm drop-off dates in writing.
Is PPF worth it?
It depends on the car and how long you plan to keep it. PPF costs more than a ceramic coating, and it addresses a different problem: physical damage.
| Your situation | Does PPF make sense? |
|---|---|
| New or high-value car you will keep for years | Often yes, at least on the full front |
| Lots of highway miles | Often yes, a full front is a common choice |
| Garaged car that rarely leaves town | Less likely |
| Older car with existing chips and faded paint | Rarely: film cannot repair damaged paint |
| Car you will sell soon | Rarely |

Questions to ask before you pay
- Which panels are covered, listed one by one?
- Which brand and product line, and what is the written warranty?
- Does the warranty cover removal and replacement, and who honors it if the shop closes?
- Are edges wrapped, and where are the seams?
- Is paint correction included or extra?
- How do I wash and maintain the film, and does the warranty require inspections?
Frequently asked questions
How much does paint protection film cost?
Advertised prices for all PPF packages run about $1,200 to $3,800 nationally and $1,200 to $5,500 in Florida (a small sample). Nationally, a full front is advertised at about $1,850 to $2,500 and a full body at about $6,000 to $7,000 (September 2026). We have no Florida breakdown by coverage.
Is paint protection film worth the cost?
It can be for cars that see highway miles or that you plan to keep. Film makers design it to protect against rock chips and light scratches, which ceramic coating does not address. It costs more and it is not a guarantee against every kind of damage.
How much should I pay for paint protection film?
Compare quotes for the same coverage. For a full front, a quote between roughly $1,850 and $2,500 matches the middle of nationally advertised prices. Quotes far below that need a close look at the film brand and warranty; quotes far above it need an explanation of the vehicle or the film.
How long does 3M PPF last?
3M publishes its own written warranty for its paint protection film, and the term and conditions depend on the product line and region, so ask your installer for the warranty document for the exact film. For comparison, XPEL’s warranty on its ULTIMATE PLUS and STEALTH films is 10 years from installation. A warranty term is not a lifespan, and it covers film defects, not rock-chip damage.
